Vandalism at Longwood Cemetery under Bedford Police Investigation
BEDFORD, Va. – The Town of Bedford Police Department (BPD) is actively probing into an incident of vandalism and property damage at Longwood Cemetery.

Early yesterday morning, October 6, 2023, at precisely 7:34 a.m., local officers were dispatched to the scene at 1131 Park Street after receiving a notification about the damage. Preliminary assessments indicate multiple tombstones and other facilities within the cemetery's premises have been affected.

While the sense of unity and goodwill in our community is commendable, we'd like to relay an important request from the Town of Bedford: Please refrain from attempting to rectify or clean up any damages at the cemetery. It's crucial to understand that the area is an active crime scene, and any well-intentioned interventions could potentially disrupt the investigation.

The Town of Bedford genuinely appreciates the community's understanding and cooperation during this time. Kindly allow the BPD to conduct their investigation thoroughly.
